# Text Block

> Add a titled section of rich text to a quote for executive summaries, scope, implementation notes, or any narrative around the pricing.

A Text block is a titled section of free-form rich text. Reps write it themselves, so it's the place for the content that explains the deal: an executive summary, a statement of work, implementation scope and assumptions, or a note to the buyer.

Unlike [Terms](/get-started/calculator/terms.md), Text blocks aren't reviewed or locked -- the rep writes and edits the content directly. Use Terms for legal language that must be consistent across deals, and Text blocks for everything deal-specific.

***

## Add a Text block

**1. Open the Add Content menu**

On the quote, click **Add Content** in the toolbar.

**2. Choose Text Block**

Select **Text Block**. Veles adds a block titled "Text" at the bottom of the quote.

**3. Write the content**

Click the block to edit it. Enter a **Name** (the heading the buyer sees) and the body text, then click **Save**. Press Escape or click **Cancel** to discard your changes.

A quote can have as many Text blocks as you need. To change one later, click it again.

The body editor supports standard rich text formatting -- headings, bold and italic, lists, and links.

***

## Manage the block

Hover over the block and click the grip icon on its left to open the block menu. Drag the same icon to move the block up or down the quote -- for example, to put an executive summary above the Pricing Options.

| Action | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Hide** / **Reveal** | Hides the block from the buyer's Web Portal while keeping it on the quote. Hidden blocks are dimmed in the editor. |
| **Delete** | Removes the block from the quote. |

Blocks can only be added, changed, moved, or removed while the quote is in the quoting stage.

***

## Where it appears

* **Web Portal:** the name renders as a heading with the body text below it, in the block's position on the quote.
* **Documents:** in a template, Text blocks are reached by looping over `blocks` and checking `is_text`. The body is in `block.terms_html`. Text block bodies are also included in the top-level `terms_html`, which combines all Terms and Text content in quote order. The block's name isn't available as a template variable, so write a heading in the template if you need one. See [Document Generation](/get-started/document-generation/overview.md#blocks).

***

## Admin settings

Admins control Text blocks from **Admin Console > Calculator > Blocks**.

| Setting | Effect |
| - | - |
| **Text Block Enabled** | When off, **Text Block** is removed from the Add Content menu and new quotes don't get a default Text block. Text blocks already on quotes stay where they are. |
| **Default Text Block** | A name and body that Veles adds as a Text block to every new quote. Use it for content that belongs on most proposals, such as a company overview. Reps can edit or delete it like any other Text block. |
