# Pricing Option Block

> The block that holds a quote's pricing: products, phases, discounts, and totals. Add one or several to give the buyer choices.

A Pricing Option block is the pricing table on a quote. It holds the products the rep has selected, the [Phases](/get-started/calculator/quote-phase.md) of the deal, the [Quote Lines](/get-started/calculator/quote-line.md) with their prices and discounts, and the totals. Every quote has at least one -- Veles adds an empty Pricing Option to every new quote.

A quote can carry several Pricing Options, so the buyer can compare different configurations on one proposal instead of receiving separate quotes.

***

## What the block contains

| Part | What it is |
| - | - |
| **Name** | The option's title on the proposal. New options are named "Option #1", "Option #2", and so on. |
| **Phases** | The time periods of the deal, each with its own lines and pricing. See [Quote Phases](/get-started/calculator/quote-phase.md). |
| **Quote Lines** | One row per product charge, with quantity, list price, system adjustments, and rep discount. See [Quote Lines](/get-started/calculator/quote-line.md). |
| **Deal settings** | Currency, billing frequency, promotions, and uplift for the option. |
| **Terms** | Clauses from your [Terms library](/get-started/calculator/terms.md) attached to this option. See [Terms block](/get-started/calculator/blocks/terms-block.md). |
| **Totals and metrics** | TCV, Year 1 recurring, and one-time fees, calculated as you build. |
| **Rule alerts** | Any [pricing rules](/get-started/rules-and-approval/pricing-rules.md) the option breaches, and who needs to approve them. |

How much of this the buyer sees is controlled by [Display Options](/get-started/calculator/quote-display-options.md).

## Add a Pricing Option

**1. Open the Add Content menu**

On the quote, click **Add Content** in the toolbar.

**2. Choose Pricing Option**

Select **Pricing Option**. Veles adds a new option at the bottom of the quote.

**3. Configure it**

Click the option to open it in the Calculator. Select products, set up Phases, and apply discounts. See [Quote](/get-started/calculator/quote-options.md#building-a-pricing-option) for a walkthrough.

> [!NOTE]
>
> On a renewal or amendment quote that has a [Contract block](/get-started/calculator/blocks/contract-block.md), **Pricing Option** works differently: the new option is cloned from the contract instead of starting empty.

### Rename an option

Open the option and edit the name at the top of the Calculator. Give options names the buyer will understand at a glance, such as "1-Year Standard" and "3-Year with Premium Support", rather than the default "Option #2".

## Multiple options for the buyer to compare

Add a Pricing Option for each configuration you want the buyer to weigh up. Common patterns:

* Good / Better / Best packages
* 1-year vs. 3-year commitment
* A full-price option alongside a discounted option that carries [Terms](/get-started/calculator/terms.md) such as co-marketing

On the [Web Portal](/get-started/calculator/web-portal.md), the buyer can click between the options and compare them. In generated documents, templates can print every option or just the primary one.

### The Primary option

One option on each quote is the **Primary** option -- the one you expect to close. The Primary option is what syncs to your CRM and what document templates use for `primary_option`. When a quote has exactly one visible option, Veles makes it Primary automatically. To change it, use **Make Primary Option** from the block menu.

> [!TIP]
>
> Two or three options is usually enough. More than that tends to slow the buyer down rather than help them decide.

***

## Manage the block

Hover over the block and click the grip icon on its left to open the block menu. Drag the same icon to move the block up or down the quote.

| Action | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Make Primary Option** | Makes this the Primary option. |
| **Clone** | Copies the option, including its lines and pricing, with " Clone" added to the name. Useful for building a variant of a complex configuration. |
| **Hide** / **Reveal** | Hides the option from the buyer's Web Portal while keeping it on the quote for reference. Hidden blocks are dimmed in the editor. |
| **Delete** | Removes the option from the quote. |

Blocks can only be added, changed, moved, or removed while the quote is in the quoting stage. Once it becomes an Order, the blocks are read-only.

***

## Where it appears

* **Web Portal:** each visible option renders as a pricing table with the totals and columns your [Display Options](/get-started/calculator/quote-display-options.md) allow, plus labels for any attached terms.
* **Documents:** templates reach options through `options`, `primary_option`, or by looping over `blocks` with `is_option`. See [Document Generation](/get-started/document-generation/overview.md#options).
