# Contract Block

> Show the customer's current contract on a renewal or amendment quote, and clone it into a new Pricing Option.

A Contract block shows the contract a renewal or amendment quote was created from: its number, the customer, the contract dates, and the products, quantities, and prices in each Phase. It gives the buyer (and the rep) the current deal as a reference point next to the new Pricing Options.

The Contract block is read-only. It always reflects the contract as stored in Veles -- you can't edit the contract's lines from the quote.

***

## Availability

The Contract block is only available on quotes that come from a contract -- the renewal and amendment quotes created from a [contract](/get-started/contract-management/renewals-and-amendments.md). Other quotes don't offer it.

When you create a renewal or amendment quote, Veles adds the Contract block for you, along with one Pricing Option copied from the contract. A quote can have only one Contract block.

### Add it back

If the Contract block was deleted, you can add it again in either of two ways:

* Click **Add Content** and select **Contract**.
* In the quote's left sidebar, click **add** next to **Contract #...**.

While the quote has a Contract block, the **Contract** entry in the Add Content menu is greyed out and marked **Already added**.

***

## What the block shows

| Part | What it shows |
| - | - |
| **Header** | "Existing Contract", the contract number, the customer, and the contract's start and end dates. |
| **Phase tables** | For each Phase: product, quantity, and price per line. Usage-based lines show their rate without a quantity. |
| **Phase total** | The total for each Phase, if turned on. |
| **Total** | The total across the Phases shown. |

If the contract can no longer be found, the block shows "Contract data is no longer available."

### Display options

Open the block menu and choose **Change Display Options** to control how much of the contract is shown:

| Setting | Options |
| - | - |
| **Phase Display** | **Show All Phases** (default) or **Show Last Phase Only**. Showing only the last Phase keeps the focus on what the customer is paying today. |
| **Show Phase Totals** | Adds a total row under each Phase. Off by default. |

## Clone the contract into a Pricing Option

The fastest way to build a renewal or amendment option is to start from what the customer already has. Open the block menu and choose **Clone into Option**, or click **Add Content** and select **Pricing Option** -- on a quote with a Contract block, a new Pricing Option is always cloned from the contract.

What gets copied depends on the quote type:

* **Renewal:** the contract's last Phase becomes a single one-year Phase, with the contracted products, quantities, and prices.
* **Amendment:** the contract's Phases are copied so you can change them for the rest of the term.

See [Renewals and Amendments](/get-started/contract-management/renewals-and-amendments.md) for exactly how each is built. The cloned option is an ordinary [Pricing Option](/get-started/calculator/blocks/pricing-option.md): change quantities, products, and prices as on any quote.

## Manage the block

Hover over the block and click the grip icon on its left to open the block menu. Drag the same icon to move the block up or down the quote. Clicking the block itself opens the contract, the same as the **Contract #...** link in the sidebar.

| Action | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Change Display Options** | Choose which Phases to show and whether to show Phase totals. |
| **Clone into Option** | Adds a new Pricing Option copied from the contract. |
| **Hide** / **Reveal** | Hides the block from the buyer's Web Portal while keeping it on the quote. |
| **Delete** | Removes the block from the quote. The contract itself is not affected. |

Blocks can only be added, changed, moved, or removed while the quote is in the quoting stage.

***

## Where it appears

* **Web Portal:** the block renders the same way as in the editor, with the Phase display settings you chose.
* **Documents:** document templates don't have variables for the Contract block. To show the current contract in a generated document, build it from the quote's Pricing Options instead.
